The City of Brampton strives to ensure all City assets are in a good state of repair, including its roads, curbs and sidewalks which generally last 15-20 years. In order to maintain the road network to the highest standard, City staff evaluate the road system every 3 years and develop a 5 year forecast of improvements. This enables the City to coordinate construction activities with the Region of Peel (i.e. underground repairs, watermain upgrades, etc.) for minimal disruption.

The Road Resurfacing Program takes place every year and involves grinding and repaving the road surface to restore it to its original state. The City uses contractors to complete the following road resurfacing work:

  • repairing concrete curbs, sidewalks and catch basins
  • raising and adjusting manholes
  • restoring any damage to sod, driveways and private curbs resulting from the construction
  • providing a new road surface

If your street is due for resurfacing, you will receive a Notice of Construction Letter indicating when work will take place on your street and who to contact if you have any concerns.

Work on each street takes about six to eight weeks to complete.

City contractors use hot asphalt during the road resurfacing process that takes time to cool once on the roadway. Ensure that all members of your household are aware of this potential hazard.
