Planning for Cycling
The future of cycling in Brampton is a shared vision and a collaborative effort involving a number of organizations and advocacy groups:
As part of Brampton’s vision for a safe, sustainable, and livable community less reliant on automobiles, we are working to give people more choices that are reliable, practical, and welcoming. Riding a bicycle is one of these options and designated bike lanes promote a safe and healthy mode of transportation. Have a look to see if cycling lanes are coming to your area!
The Brampton Cycling Advisory Committee provides input and advice to City staff and to Council regarding the development and maintenance of a safe and connected cycling network. BCAC consists of appointed Brampton residents and a City Council representative.
BikeBrampton is a local cycling advocacy group which holds a number of regular events to build community and promote active transportation. Volunteers encourage increased safe cycling in Brampton and Caledon through bike mentorship programs, workshops, contests, and more.
Walk + Roll Peel promotes Peel's bicycle and pedestrian initiatives and infrastructure as well as the benefits of active transportation. A joint effort between the City of Brampton, Region of Peel, City of Mississauga, and Town of Caledon, the organization is committed to getting more people walking and cycling - instead of driving - for everyday trips.
Brampton Cycling Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and enjoying road riding in the western Greater Toronto Area (GTA) by conducting club rides and touring groups based on riding abilities.
The Share the Road Cycling Coalition is a cycling advocacy organization working to build a bicycle-friendly Ontario. The organization's Bicycle Friendly Community Award (BFC) Program provides incentives, hands-on assistance, and award recognition for communities that actively support bicycling. The City of Brampton has achieved Bronze status, see the report card here.
