Brampton City Council sets all fees and charges. A copy of all Finance Department Fees and Charges is available on
Schedule I of By-law 380-2003. Some of the more frequently incurred fees and charges are outlined below. Please note that a number of the administrative and service fees below are subject to the 13% Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).
Penalty and Interest on Overdue Taxes
- Payments are due on the date and in amounts that your tax bill indicates.
- The City will charge an administrative fee for payments that are not cleared by your financial institution.
- The City charges penalty/interest on overdue taxes at a rate of 1.25%. It adds the penalty or interest on the first day after the due date and on the first day of each month until you pay. The rate may increase or decrease by any change in provincial legislation or City by-laws.

The City will not waive penalty and interest charges.
New Account Administration Fee
If a property is new to the tax roll, a one-time administration fee will be added to cover the costs associated with setting up the tax roll. A statement will be sent to the homeowner for payment.
New Owner Account Administration Fee
The City will add an administration fee to all accounts where property ownership has changed. It will send a statement to the homeowner for payment.
Please note: Mortgage companies and lawyers do not pay this fee as part of the closing or for mortgage payment.
Returned Payments (NSF)
Any payments not cleared by your financial institution, for reasons such as insufficient funds, account closed, etc. will be subject to an administration fee. This charge will be added to the tax account and cannot be waived.
Tax Statements
You can get tax statements for 1998, and any year after 1998, for a fee. Statements for 1997 and years prior are no longer available.
