The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is responsible for assessing all properties in the Province of Ontario, including the City of Brampton. MPAC is located at 6745 Century Avenue, Suite #1, Mississauga, Ontario, L5N 8C9 and can be reached at 1-866-296-6722.
The City of Brampton calculates the tax bills based on assessment information supplied by MPAC. In the case of a new house, when there is a delay in receiving the information from MPAC, the City cannot issue a tax bill. This delay can be considerable, with some people not receiving a tax bill for as long as two years after occupancy. To estimate your annual property taxes, please click here.
Background on MPAC and Property Assessment
- The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization. It operates under the authority of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation Act.
- MPAC is responsible for assessing all property in Ontario. Its main function is to calculate assessment values and to classify properties according to their use for the City, Region and The Province (education) tax purposes.
- Property classifications include residential, multi-residential, commercial, industrial, pipeline, farm and managed forest/conservation land.
- MPAC administers a uniform, province-wide property assessment system based on current value assessment (CVA).
- MPAC completed the last province-wide assessment in 2016 based on a market valuation date of January 1, 2016.
- To provide an additional level of property tax stability and predictability, the market increases in the assessed value of a property were phased-in over four years. Municipalities used the 2016 current value assessment for the 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 taxation years.
- If there has been a decrease in a property’s 2016 current value assessment compared to the 2012 current value assessment, it will be reflected immediately in the 2017 tax year.
- The change in assessed value and phase-in assessment values for the 2017 to 2020 property tax years are listed on the 2016 Property Assessment Notice issued by MPAC.

- If you disagree with the RfR recommendation, you may file an appeal with the ARB before the deadline, which is 90 days from the mailing date on your RfR recommendation. The RfR recommendation must be issued before filing with the ARB.
- For all other property types:
- You may choose to either file a RfR with MPAC or file an appeal directly to the ARB.
