Smoking tobacco or cannabis or vaping, including an e-cigarette is banned in Ontario, not limited to:

  • children’s playgrounds and child care facilities
  • outdoor public places (parks, swimming pools, trails)
  • public sporting areas (e.g., splash pads, soccer fields) and adjacent spectator areas
  • public City and Regional properties (libraries, museums, offices and transit facilities)
  • enclosed public places (bars, cafes, restaurants and their patios)
  • community recreational facilities
  • multi-unit residences
  • certain outdoor settings (construction sites)
  • enclosed workplaces

Peel Public Health enforces the provincial Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017. The act helps reduce youth access to tobacco and vapour products (e.g., electronic cigarettes), and protects the public from second-hand tobacco smoke, cannabis smoke, and vapour from e-cigarettes.

The By-law also bans smoking or vaping within 9 metres of any:

  • Indoor public place such as, medical centres, shopping malls, and restaurants.
  • Indoor workplaces like office buildings.
