The City of Brampton has over 850 parks that are intended to meet the needs of everyone in the community. Some are designated for active uses, with soccer fields and baseball diamonds; others are designated for passive recreation, with sitting areas and playground facilities for young children.

There is something for everyone! Facilities include playgrounds; picnic areas; natural areas; tennis courts; athletic fields; skateboard parks; cycling trails, rollerblading, running or walking; and even a ski hill. New to Brampton, is its first all inclusive playground space for children and people with disabilities.

Some parks have signs posted that ban certain sports and activities. These restrictions are in place to keep parks safe for everyone who uses them.

Motorized vehicles are not permitted in any City of Brampton park (Parklands By-law). Examples include cars, trucks, motorcycles, pocket bikes, electric bikes, etc. Motorized mobility assistive devices like wheelchairs and scooters used by persons with disabilities are permitted for use on park trails.

The Parklands By-law 161-83 provides for the management, control regulations, maintenance and usage of all park lands and water areas situated within parklands and properties owned by The Corporation of the City of Brampton for park or recreation purposes. No person shall contravene any posted rules or regulations related to the operation of parkland, arenas, swimming pools, lake areas, recreation centres or any other City property or facility.

The By-law speaks to, and is not limited to:

Winter Pond Safety

Parklands By-Law 161-83 governs the “management, control regulations, maintenance and usage of all parklands and water areas…owned by The City of Brampton for park or recreation purposes”.

This By-law prohibits ice-skating or tobogganing on a pond, lake or waterway during the winter, except in areas that the City has designated.

If the City has not clearly designated the pond/lake for skating, then City staff are not measuring or monitoring the ice for thickness and it could be unsafe. Skating on unmonitored ice would contravene the Parklands By-Law.

For more information on where you can skate, call 311.
