Committees
The Ontario Heritage Act encourages local citizen participation in heritage conservation through the establishment of municipal heritage committees.
Brampton Heritage Board
The Brampton Heritage Board (BHB) is a Committee established through by-law by City Council under the authority of the
Ontario Heritage Act. It serves as Brampton's “municipal heritage committee”. Citizen participation is essential to heritage conservation. The BHB plays an important role by enabling a community to participate more directly in the decision-making process.
The mission of the BHB is to advise City Council on the identification, conservation and promotion of cultural heritage resources in Brampton, in accordance with the
Ontario Heritage Act. The BHB meets once a month to review application and projects, and discuss various heritage-related items. The Brampton Heritage Board and its sub-committees do not have decision-making authority - it serves an advisory, consultative role only. Heritage staff from the Planning & Infrastructure Services Department provides technical assistance to the Committee.
Meetings are typically held of the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm in the Council Committee Room of City Hall.
Heritage Resources Sub-Committee
The Heritage Resource Sub-Committee (HRSC) is a sub-committee of the Brampton Heritage Board whose primary focus is to advise on and assist with maintaining the heritage registers, and to conduct research for various projects such as listing and designation reports, plaques. The HRSC typically meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6:00pm in City Hall or in the Archives at PAMA.
Outreach & Marketing Sub-Committee
The Outreach and Marketing (O&M) Sub-Committee is a sub-committee of the Brampton Heritage Board whose primary focus is to advise on and assist with programs and activities that promote cultural heritage awareness. The O&M Sub-Committee typically meets on the last Thursday of the month at 5:30pm in City Hall.
