Inspections are random and take approximately 15 minutes to complete. City of Brampton Officers are identified by their uniforms and City of Brampton vehicles. They will provide their name, badge and photo ID. These inspection and guidelines are in place to enforce a safe, transparent driving experience for passengers and drivers.

Our goal is to create a safe environment for both our drivers and the public and inspections are completed as a safety precaution. Drivers should expect to be periodically inspected through out the year.

What to expect when I arrive at an inspection?

The PTC platform will indicate to the driver that a rider is ready for pick-up. At this time, the officer will be present and will signal to the PTC driver that they have arrived for an inspection. Once the officer identifies themselves and verify that the Driver's vehicle is the same license plate, make, model, year and colour.

Step 1: The Officer will ask for the following documentation:

  1. Valid Ontario Drivers License - Class 'G'
  2. Valid Insurance
  3. Proof of ownership
  4. Ontario Safety Standards Certification
    • Please note, Safety Standards Certifications are only valid for 1 year OR 50,000 kilometres from the last time of inspection.

Once the documentation has been verified the officer will take photos of the documents to make sure they match what is recorded in the PTC platform the Driver is registered with. The officer will then cancel the ride through the PTC Application and the Driver will receive a cancellation fee for the ride.

Step 2: The Officer will conduct an exterior inspection on the vehicle.

The Officer will be checking for the following:

  • All exterior lights are in working order and in good condition
  • The vehicle is in good repair and have no exterior vehicle damage
  • The Ontario licence plate is completely visible both front and rear
  • The PTC Identifier is visible from the front or rear window

  • All seatbelts will be inspected to make sure they are all functioning properly
  • No garbage or interior damage visible
  • Working air-conditioner and heating system
  • All doors open from the exterior and interior
  • All windows go up and down properly
