Chinguacousy Park Skating Recreational Trail

Construction is underway on a new outdoor ice skating facility at Chinguacousy Park. Designed in the shape of an irregular ‘canal’ style skating track, it will feature bends that will be configured for skaters with different abilities without disturbing the general flow of skaters. There will also be winter seating and warming areas along the trail.

During the summer months, the ‘canal’ will become a reflective fountain that will allow some water play. When required, the fountain can be drained to provide a large plaza to support summer outdoor events, performances and other gatherings.

On Friday, July 22, construction of the skating recreational trail at Chinguacousy Park reached its peak. Starting at 11 pm, the ‘big pour at Ching Park’ saw 3 million pounds of concrete poured continuously by 57 people using three pump trucks, nine power trowels and 58 truckloads of concrete. For more facts and information on the big pour, view the media release.

This will be a multi-use facility supporting activities all year round and is expected to be completed by Fall 2016.

Key features:

  • Outdoor ice skating recreational trail
  • Pedestrian pathway connections
  • Open space/plaza
  • Seating areas
