- What positions are you recruiting for?
There are several positions including: Location Supervisor, Assistant Location Supervisor, Deputy Returning Officer, Tabulator Attendant and Greeter. Position descriptions may be found here.
- What’s the pay?
Compensation varies depending on the position you are hired to fill. A full listing of positions with their rates of pay can be found here.
- Are there any age restrictions to working the election?
Yes. Most election worker positions including Location Supervisors, Assistant Location Supervisors, Deputy Returning Officers and Tabulator Attendants must be 18 years of age or older. Applicansts must be 16 years of age or older to be considered for the Greeter position. - How do I apply to work?

- What if I don’t have access to a computer? Can I still apply?
Yes. Paper applications are available at City Hall with the City Clerk's Office. Applications can be submitted during regular business hours. A printable verison of the paper application can be found here.
- What qualifications do I need to work in the election?
We are looking for individuals with excellent customer service and organizational skills, who are proficient with a computer and have the ability to work under pressure. Previous elections experience and a second spoken language are assets. - Will training be provided?
Yes! Training is provided and is mandatory to work the election. - Is previous experience required?
Previous experience is preferred, however you will be trained for your role. - Do I still need to attend training if I have previous experience?
Yes, training is mandatory for all workers, experienced or not. There are always changes to processes and upgrades with technology. - What are the hours I need to work on Voting Day?
Election workers can expect to work approximately 14 hours on Voting Day. The day starts at 8 am with polls closing at 8 pm. Finish time will depend on location closing procedures. - When will I find out if I have been hired to work the election?
You will be contacted by early September if you have been hired to work the election. - When will I be paid?
Election worker pay cheques will be mailed to the address listed on the application form, approximately six (6) to eight (8) weeks after Voting Day. It is the responsibility of the election worker to provide a complete mailing address, including unit number (if applicable) and postal code on their application form. - Will I receive a T4A slip?
T4A slips will be issued to election workers who earn more than $500. - Are breaks provided for lunch or dinner?
All election workers are required to remain at the voting place the entire day. Please come prepared with your own snacks, drinks and meals for the day. Short breaks to eat are permitted during quiet times.
