Citizens Services Platform

In December of 2010, the City of Brampton launched a newly designed external portal for its residents, businesses and visitors. This new portal developed on Microsoft's Sharpoint Platform was a combined effort of all departments to deliver services to the public in an easy to navigate, user friendly manner. The site also includes ground-breaking mapping functionality developed using Visual Fusion.

This new portal is being recognized globally and continues to win awards for its innovation;

  • Global Best Use of Social Media Award at the Local and Regional Government Solutions Forum; Bergen, Norway
  • Recipient of Global Best Innovation Project Award at the Local and Regional Government Solutions Forum; Bilbao, Spain

  • GITA Geospatial Information Technology Association International Innovator Award for CSP Interactive mapping; Texas, USA

  • 2010 Government Technology Exhibition and Conference (GTEC) Gold Medal and Distinction Award in the Municipal Category for Service Delivery to Citizens and Businesses

 Integrated Fire and Technology Initiative

The City was recognized for its Fire Integrated Mobile 2.0 Technology initiative, which demonstrated partnership in developing and implementing innovative solutions that leverage technology to assist the frontline mobile units, fire officers and staff to deliver their services safely, intelligently and optimally. This continues to position Brampton as a smart city at provincial, national and global stages.

Awards:

  • Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) Award, in the category of Excellence in Municipal Systems, which recognizes municipalities that demonstrated improvement in service delivery to clients, citizens or businesses as well as high level of collaboration between IT and other City departments.  The annual award was presented on May, 2012

  • CIO 100, which honours 100 organizations globally that have distinguished themselves by creating business value through the effective and innovative use of Technology.  The City of Brampton is the First Canadian municipality ever to win the CIO 100 Award for two consecutive years, last year was related to its portal initiative.  The award was presented on August, 2012

  • Peter J. Marshall Innovation Certificate of Merit Award, Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), which recognizes municipal governments that demonstrate excellence in the use of innovative approaches to improve capital and/or operating efficiency and to generate effectiveness through alternative service delivery initiatives and partnerships. The award was presented on August, 2012.

  • GTEC (Canada's Government Technology Event) 2012 Distinction Award, which recognizes and celebrates projects and individuals within the public sector who have demonstrated leadership and excellence in the innovative management and application of Information Technology.  The award was presented during the Distinction Awards Gala, on November 5, 2012.
