Bram East (Area 41) and Goreway Dr (Area 39) Secondary Plan Review

The City of Brampton has commenced a review of the Bram East Area 41 and Goreway Drive Area 39 Secondary Plans.

The Study Area

The Project

The purpose of the Bram East and Goreway Drive Secondary Plan Review is to update existing policies and schedules of both secondary plans, and ensure conformity with the 2019 Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

The current Bram East and Goreway Drive Secondary Plans were adopted by City Council in 1995 and 1994 respectively, and have not been substantially updated since then. It is proposed to consolidate the Goreway Drive Corridor Secondary Plan into Bram East to create one larger secondary plan that incorporates both areas.

An updated Secondary Plan will allow the City to better respond to public inquiries and development applications and provide greater certainty regarding future development in the area.

The review of these secondary plans is being undertaken parallel to the City’s Official Plan Review.

The City is looking to move forward and complete the Study in 2021.

The objectives of this Secondary Plan Review are to:

    1. Verify and update mapping and migrate schedules to GIS.
    2. Develop a comprehensive land use plan that will assist the City in assessing future development applications.
    3. Develop a comprehensive policy framework for employment uses in the area, including the office node centred around Queen Street and Highway 50.
    4. Review existing policies and update the Secondary Plan to ensure conformity.

The City has retained the consulting firm WSP Canada Group Limited to undertake the Secondary Plan Review.

A Staff Report detailing the purpose of the project was presented to Planning Committee on February 1, 2021.

Staff is planning to schedule a virtual open house in early Spring to obtain feedback from relevant stakeholders, prior to presenting the proposed Official Plan Amendment for Council’s consideration at a Statutory Public Meeting.
